In Tune with Heaven: Resonance in Godly Play

Time and again, as we deliver the Godly Play curriculum—tell stories, ask wondering questions, enable response, and feast together—the elements resonate, within, between and beyond themselves, creating something far greater than the sum of the individual parts.  Connections are set up, links are formed, and through this, meaning is made as the Holy Spirit continues to ‘lead us into all truth.’

Peter Moger’s talks examine resonance in relation to Godly Play.  He looks at the way in which the shape of a Godly Play session and the material in the spiral curriculum resonate with Scripture and liturgy and how this affects Godly Play as a means of formation.

Meet our Speaker

Rev Canon Peter Moger

Peter Moger

Sub Dean, Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford

Peter Moger was born in the East Riding of Yorkshire.  He read Music at Merton College, Oxford and, after postgraduate study in composition, worked as a schoolteacher before training for ordination at St John’s College, Durham.  After a curacy at Whitby, he served as Precentor at Ely Cathedral, as a parish priest, then as Secretary of the Church of England Liturgical Commission. From 2010-2019 he was Canon Precentor (and latterly Acting Dean) of York Minster, and from 2019-2023 served in the Scottish Episcopal Church as priest on the Isle of Lewis.  He returned to England in 2023 where he is Sub Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.

Peter is the author of  Crafting Common Worship, the editor of the Church of England’s Lectionary, and was until recently commissioning editor of the popular series Reflections for Daily Prayer.  He contributed several hymn tunes to the 2013 edition of Hymns Ancient and Modern.  Whilst in Scotland, he trained as a
Godly Play storyteller, and his wife Heather and he set up a Godly Play Room on the Isle of Lewis.

He has a keen interest in the interface of music and theology, and in particular the transmission of Biblical texts through musical settings.

About the venue

Mayfield Salisbury Church has always been a vibrant worshipping community. It’s history dates back to the late nineteenth century. The site for the church, at the corner of West Mayfield, was selected in July 1876, and the main sanctuary was completed in 1879, the spire being added in 1894.
Godly Play has been spoken at Mayfield Salisbury for almost 15 years.
